Shockingly in the second decade of the 21st century it is still possible to go to a leading marketing or communications industry event and only see a handful of black or Asian faces in the room.
In 2015’s ‘A List’, out of 418 executives 79 (19%) were women and eight (2%) were black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME).
Marketing’s 2016 ‘Power 100’ lists just 6 people from black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds- yet about 8m people, 13% of the UK, come from black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds.
Establishing an ethnically diverse talent pool from entry level to senior leadership starts with creating imaginative career attraction strategies. Never before has it been so important to compete with professions such as finance, accountancy, management consultancy and law to attract ambitious young people. We want the Marketing, Media and Communications sector to be a career of choice for young black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME) talent.

talent before they ever reach a leadership role. #Noturningback20/20 aims to help keep our talent as they progress through their careers; to see more reaching leadership level and more become Marketing and Communications Directors of leading organisations or the CEO’s of top Agencies.
No Turning Back 2020 has been created to harness a collective energy that will focus on attracting and keeping black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME) talent in the Marketing, Media and Communications sector.
Our aim is to work towards
- 20% of the total young talent that enters our industry each year to come from black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds
- 20% of leadership roles represented by black, Asian, minority ethnic (BAME) talent
The No Turning Back 2020 ambassador team are all role models and rising stars. They have each made a personal commitment to help with targeted messaging to young people about careers in our sector. Our Advisors are leaders in their chosen specialist area of Marketing, Media and Communications. They will champion the Ambassadors and help ensure that our initiatives are taken into businesses. No Turning Back 2020 will meet quarterly to update on activities and report back on successes. We will publish case studies and measures of successes annually. This is a long term programme committed to sustainable change.
